Whether you prefer your cookies thick and chewy or thin and crispy, this recipe has you covered. You have the option to use either cold butter for a thicker texture or brown butter for a delightful caramel nutty taste. It's all about personal preference, and either way, you're in for a treat.

But here's the kicker: not only are these cookies delicious straight out of the oven, but they also freeze like a dream! Cold Butter

Using cold butter in cookie recipes has several benefits. Firstly, it contributes to a thicker cookie because it creates pockets of fat that melt during baking, resulting in flakiness and tenderness. Secondly, it helps control spreading, leading to cookies with a thicker and chewier texture. Finally, cold butter can enhance flavor as it releases its taste more slowly during baking. Overall, incorporating cold butter into cookie recipes can result in delicious and well-balanced treats.

Browned Butter

Brown butter adds a delightful depth of flavor to cookies, elevating them from ordinary to extraordinary. When butter is browned, its milk solids caramelize, creating a nutty aroma and taste that enhances the overall cookie experience. Incorporating brown butter into cookie recipes can result in cookies with a rich, complex flavor profile and a slightly caramelized finish. Additionally, brown butter contributes to a chewier texture , leading to cookies with a perfect balance of crisp edges and soft centers. Overall, using brown butter in cookies is a simple yet effective way to take your homemade treats to the next level.

Foolproof Easy Chocolate Chip Cookie FAQs

How do I brown my butter?

  1. Start with unsalted butter: Place the desired amount of unsalted butter in a light-colored saucepan or skillet. Using unsalted butter allows you to control the saltiness of your dish.
  2. Melt the butter over medium heat: Place the saucepan or skillet over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt completely, swirling the pan occasionally to ensure even heating.
  3. Foam and sizzle: As the butter heats, it will begin to foam. This is caused by the water content evaporating. After the foam subsides, the butter will start to sizzle and crackle.
  4. Watch for color and aroma: Keep a close eye on the butter as it cooks. Once the foam starts to dissipate, the milk solids at the bottom of the pan will begin to brown. Swirl the pan gently to ensure even browning. You'll notice a nutty aroma and the butter will turn a golden-brown color.
  5. Remove from heat: As soon as the butter reaches a rich amber color, remove the pan from the heat to prevent it from burning. Transfer the browned butter to a heatproof bowl to cool slightly before using it in your recipe.

Why are my cookies flat and thin?

Your cookies may not have been chilled for long enough, try adding a extra thirty mintues.

Can I bake these from frozen?

Yes these cookies can be frozen for 6 month then baked. No need to defrost these cookies. They can be cooked from frozen but may need a extra 10 minutes.

Why are my cookies greasy?

You may have not chilled the butter for long enough or incoporated the sugars into the butter. Make sure the butter is cooled and make sure to mix the butter and sugar for at least 3-5 mintues so it's well combined.

  12. After 6 minutes of baking,if you like a thinner cookie, take out the tray and lightly tap it on the counter again to further deflate the cookies.
  13. Continue baking until the cookies are golden brown with slightly crispy edges.
  14. Once done, remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the tray for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
